About the event
Singer and guitarist Joe Caliva presents An Evening of La Canzone Napoletana Classica - Classic Songs from Naples Italy. Through song, Caliva will celebrate the rich history, culture, and spirit of Naples, Italy in this unique performance. As the son of second-generation Italian-American parents, Caliva connects deeply to these timeless melodies, which once served as cherished ties to Italy for immigrants who arrived in the United States during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The songs will be performed in their original Neapolitan dialect, accompanied by stories and historical context shared in English.
The concert will take place at The Plastic Club, a non-profit organization that has supported and nourished artists since 1897, offering numerous weekly drawing workshops, monthly exhibitions, and lively programming of film, dance, music, and poetry at their historic Camac Street location and online.
